Thankful Thursdays: Truth

How often do we go through our days telling ourselves lies or believing lies that others have told us?
Ever realized that everytime you negate Truth with negativity, you belittle your worth?
Today, I'm thankful for Truth and the value it brings...even if I don't hear it all the time from others, I'm grateful that it's there and that I'm worthy of hearing it.
So, today, here's permission...
Permission to be yourself...
Permission to go for "it"...
Permission to be beautiful...
Permission to laugh a little louder...
Permission to not worry about what others think...
Permission to not worry about what others say...
Permission to be the Truth that God created you to be ...and that, my love, is worth a pretty, pretty penny.

I'm still learning how to right wrongs....
and how to not worry with making sense of being wronged...
But I guess what's most important is that I learn to master myself.

Believe it to be, align your prayers with Truth and Promise, and the realization of your Ideal truly awaits you!!

Thankful Thursdays....What If...

You know, I’m sure I’m not unlike any of the rest of you out there trying to make things happen...believing that God is just waiting to open the door, right? I toil away most days trying to be optimistic while resting on a promise that I believe God has made for our household.
Well, yesterday, I found myself being surrounded by a series of “what if’s” that had me really questioning...
”what’s next?”
Well after a series of negative outcomes, I began to really get beside myself, wondering...
"ok, God what else would you have for me to do? I feel like I’ve tried every possible approach in this area…and I simply don’t know what more to do!"
My thoughts were so loud that all I could hear in my head were thoughts like:
"What if the promise I think He made isn’t really what I thought?"
"Maybe the Word we’ve received from various sources has not been all accurate."
"What if I will have to do what I’m doing now for +10 more years before I am graced with the opportunity to do what I love?"
"What if a crisis happens tomorrow to negate the efforts we’ve made?"
"What if we never get out of debt?" which is a huge deal because I feel like I can’t leave what I do now for what I love until we do so...
"What if the gift I think that I have isn’t really all that wonderful?"
"What if the area that I thought God was really going to bless us in, really isn’t where He’s trying to bless us?"
"What if the dream I have ever comes to fruition… will there be someone to carry it on?"

Yeah, you name it, I really thought it.
I just really began to second guess everything with what’s-whats and why’s and why can’ts and how comes.
Have you ever been there?
I began to think:

"it's 2012 and I have decreed and declared how great this year will be for me, my husband, our marriage, our household, and our business."

And then I was reminded of two things..this poem that I’ve heard several times over the years:

and a snippet of my book selection from my 12 for ’12 list, As a Man Thinketh.
There are so many nuggets in this book to make you think, its almost crazy!

"His wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonize with his thoughts and actions."

and this

"A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. but anyway, here's one of the poems from the book:

So, today, I'm thankful for the If...this wonderful If is the key to positive / negative thoughts that can make all the difference in the world. I, until now, used to be incredibly scared of the "if" and the potential for failure. I'm slowly figuring out that the whats won't matter, if my response is right. So, here's to that revelation...of course, everyday is a work in progress. I hope somewhere, somehow in all of these characters in this post that you've found encouragement for yourself...and if you what ifs begin to overwhelm you, remember to align your wishes and prayers with your thoughts and actions...and in your quiet time, read this:

Wednesdays Word: God sees...

While watching a show on TBN last night I was fortunate to overhear a few insightful words from Angela Thomas. Never heard of her before last night, but what she had to share made me want to share with you.
While she took the time to share a few eye-opening encounters with God, I found myself wanting to receive an even greater level of insight from her on God's power to change situations through people.
She eluded to a scriptural reference in Genesis 16 where Hagar, the handmaid of Sarai and Abram ,said:

"You are the God who sees me." She also said, "Have I truly seen the One who sees me?"

I'm thankful to have been reminded last night that God sees all things. He knows everything that I've been through, and what is frustrating me at this very moment. He is very well aware and capable of addressing every need in my life...and even gracing me with promises that He's kept.
At this very moment, I don't know what the plan is...but I do still believe in a God that can turn things around in a heartbeat, satisfy every need, and lighten the load that may be before me.
I so realize how hard things can be...especially when I feel like I am trying my darndest to make things happen...so maybe my version of making is like Sarai's in the bible. Maybe what I think I see isn't in His timing. I guess I should trust in knowing that He still sees and will bring His promises forth in His own timing.
I just thought it fitting to remind you of the same.

Hot Dog! Weekly Meal Planner...

So I've kind of done this manually for the past two weeks, but it wasn't working that well for me...as I found out on Friday in the midst of trying to prepare pizza dough while running out of flour. Sigh. When I say manually, I mean that I've tried my hand at jotting down and even using Excel half-hazardly to come up with ideas of meals for the week. All attempts at doing this to-date have failed.
So as my dough mixture waited for my husband to make two failed trips to the grocery store, my patience got a little less than thin.
Of course, my resulting extra crispy pizza crust could've been avoided if I'd planned a little better by checking the pantry before stirring in the kitchen. I would've have realized long before Friday at 6pm that I was out of pasta sauce and all-purpose flour.
Nevertheless, we ate...and the boys were still relatively pleased with their chicken-pepperoni-bell pepper-cheese-and-tomato creation despite my oh-so-crunchy crust.
So I ran across this today, a new and improved version to what I was using before. This trusty meal planner allows you to enter in your own menu items and then leaves a front tab to retrieve those same items via a drop down menu so that you can plan for the week.
Now, if I had a DROID or iPhone instead of my almost obsolete by some acocunts Blackberry, I'm sure I'd find a trusty app to do all of this and have it right at my fingertips in a matter of minutes. Which reminds me...if any of you t\great folks out there can either:
1. Recommend an app that will work on my BB and plan my meals, while creating a grocery list, puh-LEASE let me know, or
2. Recommend an app that works on a DROID/Iphone that does the above...which will finally convince me to upgrade, I'd love you forever. :)
So anyway, I don't know how you're meal planning is going for this week, but I feel like I'm almost caught up, thanks to this handy husband's tool!

Thankful Thursdays: Cyberspace Love and Grace

Ya know, I am a firm believer in learning from others. For one main reason:

I truly believe people cross my path so that I may learn something without having to actually go THRU a process.

Granted, some lessons I'll have to learn after a few iterations, let's be real...BUT, there are several others, I'd rather not have to learn the hard way.
Agreed?
...which brings me to today's Thankful Thursdays post. Call me a worrywart of a wife, a pessimistic planner, or a controlling quibbler, but there are a few blogs that I've followed quite fondly who've been there to share insight on helpful topics such as marriage, finances, entrepreneurship, and motherhood. Today, I am grateful for them.
I'm grateful for other women out there who share tips for how they keep everything together while busting at the seams.
Sure, we all know that there's no map that tells us exactly how to live our lives...but I sure do appreciate any awe-inspring tips I can get along the way!
One undertone that I like in all of these words of wisdom?

In their own little way they manage to share their insight on the love and grace of God and how just a smidgen of both make a difference in their everyday life. How that inspires me, I can't even quantitatively express, but I'm grateful that someone stops long enough to share His grace that I may stop long enough to realize I'm getting the same measure on a daily basis!!

The longer I live, the more often I'm faced with challenges (surely you can relate)...and the older I get, the challenges seem to teach me - more often than not - lessons of patience to be slow to anger. This scripture that I ran across on Pinterest (go figure) reminded me of how to handle the next confrontation with conflict.

We are now 11 days into the new year...the new year that is going to be our best one yet (we're believing)...so I figured if you're believing the same thing, that maybe I should remind you of these 13 words to help you along our day.

G and As: Weeks 1 and 2

So, to hold ourselves more accountable and GET THINGS DONE in 2012, we set out to document our G&As (goals and accomplishments) publicly and let you watch us as we cross things off our list! I'm hoping somehow our ebbs and flows will encourage you to do the same.
Sidenote: All of our personal goals aren't listed here...but a good bit of the ones that we are trying to hold ourselves accountable for are ...so if you see gaps our question why something looks like its missing...that probably purposeful. :)
You can see our overall list of goals for 2012 here. We're trying to take bite-sized portions to make the seemingly overwhelming hopes a little more attainable. Overall, a good week..but with a birthday in a matter of minutes, I'm excited to see how promising Week 2 will be.

12 Books for 2012

I shared with you here that I wanted to try to encourage myself 12x harder this year. It's funny because I hate to say it, but once I started having kids, my reading consisted more of thumbing through a few Parenting magazines during well/sick-check visits...and yep, that's about it. So, in keeping with my good intentions, here's the list that I've created from a few folks who inspire me to try a little harder everyday.
You'll notice that an ebook and audio book are on my list. Never done tried either of those either...evidently Amazon gives away, yes, gives away some kindle reader versions of books from time to time...so at this very moment Go-Getter by is one of them! I don't even have a Kindle, but they actually allow you to download a free e-reader for your phone or PC! Who knew?! I love FREE!! Just sharing, for those of you caught back in the stone ages with me.

Unity in 2012 and how we are turning over a new leaf

As I type this, I must admit I'm a little nervous about publicizing something that may backfire in my face a few months from now. We all read about resolutions...and truthfully, I hardly ever make any. Sure, I resolve to make little improvements here and there, but usually little is written...and most is hardly ever thought of again. For instance, I don't even remember resolving to do anything last year. Yikes! Fast forward to the end of 2011, my husband and I decided to partner to do things a little different for 2012.
How? Might you ask?
Our task: to create a list of goals TOGETHER and write them down!
I know...doesn't seem like quite a stellar concept, but now that we've entered this 7th year of our marriage, I felt a little more anxiety to purpose to do things in our household with a more unified approach.
So where did I go to get inspiration to make this actually happen?
...but to the ultimate planner/scheduler/wife/WAHM herself, Crystal over at Money Saving Mom. I'm often impressed with how she manages to juggle it all...and also for how frank she is when a few eggs drop in between. Over the years, she's chronicled her goals and how she's grown here and here and I admit, I'm truly impressed with her efforts. So much so, that I thought we'd make an effort for our household as well.
I heard a scripture recently...funny how you can hear a scripture over and over and then one day it has more meaning to you.
In the 133rd division of Psalm, the Good Book reads as follows:

1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!
2It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard,coming down upon the edge of his robes.
3It is like the dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing—life forevermore.

Well, this is our "scripture" for 2012 and I believe our household will be all the better because of our purposed focus on being UNIFIED in 2012. Call us shallow, but we also believe that where we unified, the Lord will bless us...so what better way bless our household that to purpose to be on one accord, right?
We proclaimed this unity in our holiday cards...and now here for our followers.
To get a jumpstart, in the last 2 weeks of 2011 we came together and actually agreed on a few things. Disagreed on a couple too...but did so amicably and here's what we came up with.

Priority 1: Personal
1. Encourage myself in literature (read 12 inspiring books) this year.
2. Diet: Drink atleast 6 glasses of water per day
3. Sleep: Get at least 7 hours of sleep per day
4. Cross one item off of my bucket list...
lunch or dinner with a millionaire.
5. Make progress toward a 9 to 5 career change to be our own boss.

Priority 2: Marriage
1. Dinner Date once a month with Nat.
2. Do lunch once a week with Nat.
3. Read two books together..and yes, he gets to choose one.
4. Attend one weekend getaway/ marriage retreat.
5. Create more options to enjoy ourselves more as a couple.

Priority 3: Children
1. Incorporate reading in bedtime routine.
2. Have a once-a-month outing with each son individually.
3. Encourage weekly game/movie night.
4. Continue to create a true “family” dynamic,
in spite of our blended status
5. Create more options to enjoy ourselves more as a family

Priority 4: Ministry/ Friendships
1. Potluck once a month.
2. Participate in corporate prayer.
3. Work on CD project with completion by 12/2012.
4. Organize 4 Oh Give Thanks Celebration events
(Feb, May, Aug, November).
5. Organize My Brother’s Keeper Community Fundraising events
(September).

Priority 5: Financial
1. Continue to tithe: 10%.
2. Contribute to ministry building fund.
3. Eliminate consumer debt
(1 car purchased in November 2011 and 1 credit card that we’ve held on to forever).
4. Start payments on school loans.

Priority 6: Business
1. Create weekly blogging plan.
2. Officially publish book, Shhh! Maybe It's God Speaking.
3. Participate in local bridal expo. Which to date has been incredibly difficult with
two 9 to 5 jobs and 3 young kids running around
..but where there's a will, there's a way!
4. Participate in Christian event expo.
5. Launch local business showcase event.

Wow...so we did it...made these public for all to see...guess now there's nothing left but to do it!

Thankful Thursdays: To-ma-to, To-mah-to Part II

Here we go again...One might think, what on Earth could a tomato have to do with Heaven Sown Event Planning? Allow me enlighten you.

A while back we shared a testimony about our amazement after finding a volunteer Roma Tomato plant in our flower bed. Well, last night, we decided to go straight Southern with our salmon croquettes, buttered white rice, and fried green tomaters. :)

As I sat there frying my lucious tomatoes while my 3 little angels drooled in the kitchen, I remember thinking...I'm actually enjoying the fruit of minimal labor in our now, garden mound. I reflected on my excitement over finding our jewels in the garden...and thought...Ok, God, yes, I see how you're making provision even in small things.

I was reminded that yes, He knows exactly what we need when we need it...even if we might not agree at that very moment....and in due time when the timing is just right, when we least expect it, a seed that was planted will bring forth fruit..and in our case, our tomato plant has almost taken over our mound!

And with that, I was contented...with knowing that:
our God orders our footsteps when we allow Him to
He shows us where to plant....or in our case, plants for us
He nurtures the seeds that are planted.
He makes things bloom in the perfect timing....
and when we're ready, we can partake in His blessings

So, today, I'm incredibly grateful to God for:
the seeds He's giving us...
the direction He's giving us...
and prayerfully, our ability to follow His direction in due time and due season.

If our small business never becomes one able to solely provide for our household, I'm slowly growing ok with that. Allow me to be transparant when I say that I so want "this" that I truly enjoy...from the baby bibs and toddler books to our floral designs and my hubby's cheesecakes ....to be a full-time opportunity to show how God can honor giftings that I think we've been given. Especially when I see how my oldest son gravitates to the creativity we express with everything that leaves our virtual office. I want to be an example that following your dreams actually gets you somewhere....but for now, I'll just keep listening, sowing, and praying, while we enjoy our fried green tomatoes.

I thought it might be fitting to share the recipe with you....oh and by the way, these tomoatoes are scrupmtious with a good bottle of remoulade....maybe its the Cajun in me. Enjoy!

My Mooched Fried Green Tomato Recipe taken from my favorite recipe site: Allrecipes Thanks Diana Swenson-Siegel for sharing this awesome southern dish!! Ingredients:
4 large green tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup bread crumbs (I sub with Townhouse crackers)
2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 quart vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:
1.Slice tomatoes 1/2 inch thick. Discard the ends.
2.Whisk eggs and milk together in a medium-size bowl. Scoop flour onto a plate. Mix cornmeal, bread crumbs and salt and pepper on another plate. Dip tomatoes into flour to coat. Then dip the tomatoes into milk and egg mixture. Dredge in breadcrumbs to completely coat.
3.In a large skillet, pour vegetable oil (enough so that there is 1/2 inch of oil in the pan) and heat over a medium heat. Place tomatoes into the frying pan in batches of 4 or 5, depending on the size of your skillet. Do not crowd the tomatoes, they should not touch each other. When the tomatoes are browned, flip and fry them on the other side. Drain them on paper towels.

Note: Use only egg whites to ensure they came out super crispy and crunchy. Egg yolks can make fried foods a little greasy and sometimes soggy.

Creativity in Flowers....Yes! Yes! Yes!

I just love when fashion and function meet! Style Me Pretty...one of the most fashionable wedding sites we know and Hatch Creative Studio...one of the most creative designers we know when it comes to flowers have crossed paths yet again! and boy are we grateful!

From the bride...how touching is this?!: " From the Bride…We fell in love with the venue because it was a beautiful all white space, and we wanted to embrace the stark whiteness of it, the blank canvas, but add some accents and warmth. Lots of little candles everywhere. We wanted to express the beauty of the urban environment, and take advantage of the rawness of the studio space in a cool industrial chic way. But still beautiful, and a little unexpected. We wanted our guests to feel a sense of delight. We wanted the venue to feel very New York, but “our” New York. On the roof of the venue (Studio 450) there are two giant water towers, and water towers became a design element that we used in our Save The Date, Invitations, Website, our ‘logo,’ and embossed by hand on the cover of our programs. It’s hard to explain why we like watertowers so much — style, functionality, and unexpected beauty. They invite you to look up, and once you do, you see the city in an entirely new way. There’s a metaphor in there for marriage somewhere!

The paper chain idea was to make a beautiful mess of paper chains behind the ceremony space. We like the symbolism of the chains, joining links, as we join our lives together, as a couple, but also with our family and community. But we also liked the idea of taking a very common and humble material like paper and transforming it into something unique and beautiful. Barb and Nelson took this little seed of an idea, and transformed it into an incredible installation that far exceeded our expectations. It wasn’t just a backdrop for our ceremony … it became part of our ceremony. It became a representation of our community, and all the different friendships and relationships that had collectively brought us to this moment in our lives. What started as design idea has now taken on a life of its own. After getting married we formed a production company together: Paper Chain Productions. The name now represents to us not only our wedding, but our partnership, our connected community of friends and family, and the idea that you can build something beautiful and inspiring, from a simple scrap of paper.

We were engaged for a year and a half, which is a super long time to be in the ‘planning stage’ of a wedding. By the time the wedding rolled around, we felt pretty planned out! So we decided it would be fun to have a moment of ‘planned spontaneity’ during our wedding ceremony, and we invited our lovely and fearless friends to help us execute it.

Two days before the wedding we sent out an email to a group of our friends, asking them to participate in an impromptu performance smack in the middle of our ceremony. We didn’t know what to call it at the time, but a ‘flash mob’ comes close. We didn’t ask anybody to rehearse, and we had no idea how many of our friends would actually participate, let alone if the idea would work. But that wasn’t the point. The point was to do something fun, and utterly in the moment. It was wonderful, and is one of our favorite memories of the day. At the end of the readings, a friend stood up in his chair, and belted out “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing.” Followed by 15 or so of our friends standing up and joining in “Doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah!” This happened twice, and the entire thing lasted maybe 30 seconds. It was perfect. Looking out to see our friends and relatives bravely standing up and “doo-wah-ing” and dancing their hearts out, seeing the surprised and delighted looks on every one else’s faces, and hearing the explosion of laughter…it was such a sweet release, and connected everyone with each other for the more serious moments that followed."

We're really excited to share one of our latest babies with you...yes, we're birthing another one...and this one has been in the works for sometime. After three boys, you'd think a girl would be overdue, right? Just joking...nope this is probably as close to our girl as we'll ever get....so for our hopeful blog followers, don't get your hopes up too high!

This labor of love is really just another offering for YOU!

I know you're probably thinking Heaven Sown...when do you have time to do baby stuff, weddings,and cheesecakes...not to mention a new baby?!

So one of the latest crazes these days in the world of baby showers is a "sip & see". Here are a few photos of another one for inspirtation. This one recently featured on Hostess with the Mostess adds a little twist, worthy of recognition. Kudos to Carrie Sellman of Half Baked for all of the chewy and chunky details!

A "Sip & See" is an opportunity to shower a couple who has recently welcomed a new bundle of joy to their family...guests can come by and witness the miracle in person and spend a little amount of time with the happy parents. In this case, this lovely gathering was held for a couple adoptive parents. What another great application of the concept!
Carrie delivered in more ways than one from creation of the theme, favors, and invite to the festive games, and decor! Slam DUNK! Seriously.

One of my favorite touches was the fact that the guests were encouraged to write humorous thoughts onto diapers to provide the mommy and daddy with a little chuckle. The Diaper Thoughts station gave the men an avenue to showcase their best and most clever diaper humor! A Well Wishes station encouraged guests to write something sentimental on keepsake cards which were then placed into a glass bubble bowl. Of course, the main activity was oohing and awing over the guest of honor, Baby Colin!

My right-hand man...

A very important weekend is approaching, and it is oh-so-worthy of a blog post. Drumroll please... Daddy Day! There are four gentleman in my life these days, three of which encourage me, exhaust me, tickle me, inspire me and love on me. The fourth, however is even more facetted than the younger crew and he manages to do more than all three of them combined!

My dear husband not only sees about so many of my needs. He's a great provider, confidant, consoler, dreamer, encourager, tickler, doer, inspirer, and genuine lover. He's more than I ever thought when he first crossed my path...kind of like a good piece of chocolate that once you bite there's a nice goodie on the inside like a maraschino cherry, or rich caramel, ya know, something good and unexpected.

My love knows just when to put everything down and whisk me around on my tippy-toes in the kitchen in front of our boys....or when to spend a little extra time talking with our almost-ten-year-old, who doesn't quite understand why we're so passionate about getting him to make the right decisions everyday....or to which corner of our home to fly our little men when it's time for the sun to rest his eyes.

He can cook a mad pot of greens and grill up a nice helping of ribs...with his KC Gate's BBQ sauce hidden under lock and key and can re-iron anything I've already attempted, and make it look 100x better. Ok, so that's not my #1 skill, but that's ok, right? Marriage is about taking the best from two to make one, right?

We may not get along aaaaalll the time, but, when I'm angry, he knows just what to say to break the silence. Hmph. He always wins.

The fact of the matter is, that I think the true measure of a good man is one who treats the mother of his children with respect, showing them how to treat the women in their lives later. A good man spends time encouraging the gifts in his household and speaks words that inspire. A good man is a man of his word and His Word...and leads so well, that those close to him WANT to follow.

Anyway, I love this man o' mine and I'm so grateful for him that I just wanted to share with you why he's one of the best dads and husbands out there. Happy Daddy Day Babe! xoxo

Thankful Thursdays: To-ma-to, To-mah-to! Testimony Part 1

One might think, what on Earth could a tomato have to do with Heaven Sown Event Planning? Allow me enlighten you.

So when Spring came in subtly this year, I found myself doing the usual...looking for my tulip bulbs to start sprouting and discovering what made it through our NC winter. I remember thinking that I'd discovered a new weed in our flower bed, but wasn't quite sure, so I decided to let it cohabitate a while longer. Fast forward a couple months to June...when I'd grown pretty certain that my potential "sprout" was a definite 18-inch tall weed with annoying yellow buds all over. I reached down to snatch it up from its "ruuuuts"...as my home town family would've called the culprit, only to find...

"What's that?", might you ask?
A TOMATO!!!
Let me back up by saying, it's a tomato that we never planted! "Huh", I said to myself....reflecting over a conversation that I'd had with my mom just a few days ago, which resulted in my saying, maybe we should start a garden next year...and whatdaya know, unbeknownst to us, we already had!

Call me deep, but lately, some of the simplest concepts have fostered the deepest revelations for me...I'll take them. I'd rather be deep than shallow. Anyway, stay with me...

So we never planted a tomato (and none of our immediate neighbors either), but the conditions must have been ok to produce a plant from a tiny seed, bearing fruit, right?

The one (profound, to me, at least) revelation I had from this is this: Favor is sooo amazing that sometimes, you won't sow a thing physically, but the conditions around you can be soooo ideal, that random seeds produce just because they found their way to your fertile ground. Correction: OUR fertile ground. :)

So, today, that's what I'm thankful for: the revelation that if we can just keep our ground fertile, prosperous seeds that we might not even think to plant, will pop up to be blessings...they might not even look that promising initially, but OH when they start producing, we'd better be ready to receive them! The other thing is that I honestly don't think the plant would've ever survived if we hadn't planted other flowers around it in the bed, where it would receive fertilizer and watering like its neighboring buds. SO, the other parallel is that our terrific tomato plant was nurtured because it was amongst other seeds that we'd already planted! So, in essence, our job is to keep sowing and keep the ground just right, so that amongst the seeds you plant, others can flourish even more!

So yes, tomatoes have a whole lot to do with Heaven SOWN Event Planning...and I can't wait to share with you all of the abundance that's getting ready to come! Stay tuned...we'll revisit this in Thankful Thursdays: To-ma-to, To-mah-to Testimony Part 2.

Go ahead, you can mooch that testimony too, but remember, don't forget to sow a seed in someone's life today...you never know WHAT it may yield!

Some say that thunderstorms on a wedding day are a definite omen. We'd like to think just the opposite, that they're just an indicator that just as you've survived one stormy day in your relationship, you'll survive anything that comes your way!

In spite of the terrible NC tornadoes that surrounded us on all sides on 4.16.2011...one just stopping within feet of the hotel where the bride and her attendants dressed, Chris @ The Picture Guy Photography was able to get a great collection of shots to capture their day!
Sure, there were a few sketchy things that happened...like an almost blown away veil, flickering lights throughout the ceremony, whippoorwill wind-raising petticoats!!...but none of that rained on their parade! The groom's handy footwork, prayers, and a handy photographer's trigger finger, managed to keep things moving. Who said that a "cake and punch" wedding on a thunderous day could be anything less than perfect? Not THIS bride and groom!
Nope, not at all!

We've admired this photographer's work for some time...so much so, that you've seen her work featured on our blog. When it comes to service, quality, and a superb final product, you Philly-anites have no need to search any further!!

We approached her with a proposition to photograph her {coos} and {giggles} as she calls them on her site featuring some of our products, and she did NOT disappoint! This baby shower brunch is to die for, especially if you love Robert Munsch and Sheila McGraw's, "Love You Forever" kiddie book. I think, as a matter of fact,I know, I loved this book the moment I heard it.

When was that, you may ask? ...when my oldest son's kindergarten teacher honored the moms for Mother's Day with the children reciting the key phrases in this heartwarming book.

Talk about being moved to tears? :)

Eh hem, fast forward to this week when this oh-so-charming brunch graced me with its presence.

What a magical day it is going to be for one special princess in the UK.
Honestly, I find myself just a little anxious over the spectacle that will take place in just a matter of hours for one anticipated event…
to say anticipated event is actually an understatement, but you know what I mean.

You’d have to be living under a rock to not be mildly familiar with Miss Catherine “Kate” Middleton, who, as stories tell it, came from nothing, only to be whisked away by her Prince Charming, William of Wales, to live happily ever after.
So much pomp and circumstance is underway…simply because they are the royal family.
Imagine if you were just as royal?
Actually, you are! I am! We are!

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

Now, imagine, yourself being entitled to all of the offerings that will be displayed on April 29th, 2011…. I have to remind myself, that little Miss Kate Middleton, never sought out to be a princess, worthy of obtaining such wealth…neither did Princess Diana. It's quite "funny" how things like that happen to those who least expect it. So, to you who I’m sure hardly expects His royal grace to favor and rest upon you, I thought I’d send a reminder. Imagine this...all of the glory, gold, and diamonds seen on all of the replays on the day of the Royal Wedding cannot compare to glory that awaits us one day!!! I believe that He wants us to find those golden nuggets in our everyday lives and continue to strive for the greatness achievable in each and every one of us!

You’re just as entitled to royalty, to blessings, to joy, and abundance…happily ever after...no matter where you come from, how today feels, or what you think tomorrow's fate holds. The true question is …do you believe?

Thankful Thursdays: Our Deepest Fear....

...yet another Thursday that we've been so fortunate to be graced with! We simply couldn't let this "Thankful Thursday" go by without saying thanks for your "encouragement". Needless to say, it can be.....challenging trying to be an entrepreneur.

This economy is so jacked up, I'll keep my day job. :)
Benefits....its sure is nice to have 'em!
Failure. What will our kids think? What will our colleagues think?
Can it all really work?

People are always telling us thanks for encouraging them, but we just had to stop and say thanks to YOU for encouraging us. You see, we love what we do! Even though its on the side, we love it. Even though it keeps us up 'til the wee hours of the morning. We. Love. It. Even though we don't see profits E-VER-Y day, we still love it!!!! ....inspite of all of the challenges....so much that we continue do it all, the 9 to 5, the runny noses, the cubscouts, choir, praise team, the laundry, and then, the invitations, the programs, the flowers, the cheesecakes, the bibs and burpies, and of course, consultations. It's GOTTA be love, right?! :) Well, its also the encouragement! There are several of you out there. Our nameless angels, that keep asking us things like:

Hey, when can I order another Strawberry Overload Cheesecake?
Will you do the flowers for OUR wedding?
Do you have any gift baskets ready for me...yeah, I know its last minute.
How's business going?
So I need something for my dear wife...you got me covered?

You may not know it, but those things ENCOURAGE the entrepreneur, working towards their big break. Actually, they encourage us!! Those words, keep our minds turning. They keep us still believing in our dreams...because simply YOU believe in us. So we must simply say thanks for helping keep our biggest fears away...and hopefully they'll stay away long enough to push us where we'd like to be. Until then, we wanted to leave you with this poem (I'm feeling might poetic lately?) in hopes that it encourages you to do the same. xo,

Shreveport Bucket List...

and anyone who has crossed our path knows that we're all about living! It's March already and I don't think we ever officially had a resolution this for 2011...sooo, I think we'll go general and it'll be... to cross some items off our "Bucket List":

When I turned 30, I created my "Dream Big!" List of must-do items and I'm happy to say that some of my "to-do's" have become "done dids":

#9 and #22: Stay in a 5-star resort and enjoy my 30th birthday like no other birthday before it (Had the time of my life on my Honeymoon with my husband at Secrets Capri in Riviera Maya, MX....but we lost our honeymoon photos...so we've committed to going back again soon and doing everything we did the first time with footage to show for it!)
~~#21: Go to Jamaica: Enjoyed a retreat with sorority sisters in Ochos Rios, Jamaica...Arie!~~
~~#8: Sing the National Anthem at a sporting event: Proudly sang the anthem at a Baseball Game in Albany Georgia...and did NOT forget the words...although I forgot to face the flag.~~

and today, I think I'm gonna add one more on the to-do side: #34: to have the family photographed by Three Nails Photography in my hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana This guy's work is a true representative of God's gifting made manifest. I absolutely LOVE his eye and how he manages to capture true to life images on film! So for you guys remotely close to the 'port city', you might just wanna book some time with him now while you still can!!! His work is INCREDible and he unknowingly reminds us to shoot for the stars! His gift is definitely making room for him which reminds me of this great poem I heard recently:

Ms Janie over at The Bride's Cafe recently posted about Brides.com's "Color School"...and all we can say is WOW! If you're still debating over your big-day hues, you've gotta take a peak at what the Bride's.com team has put together just.for.you!
We absolutely love palettes that allow colors to play off of each other...showcasing the boldness of its neighboring hue while playing hide and seek...playing on shades in the same family seems to offer an incredible range of depth for any display! Maybe I'm just partial because when I was a little girl, I had to have the largest box that Crayola offered so that when I colored, I could add "dimension" to my Strawberry Shortcake and Smurfette coloring books. Go ahead, call me weird. Anyway, you can't deny the beauty of these palettes...

The Opportunities are endless....if you're creative!

Let's face it. Money truly does not grow on trees, and despite the fact that a lot of us would LOVE to have a dream wedding/extravaganza designed by Preston Bailey or Colin Cowie, its just not gonna happen. Maybe you'd love to spend $8K on an Amsale ceremony gown:

or $1K on this vintage Justin Alexander number:

there are these things we call budgets that limit us....FOR A REASON!
So this post is about making the most of what you've got without breaking the bank!So you'd like to have a reception but can't quite afford to feed scrumptious meals to all of your guests?

NEWSFLASH: Your guests will be ok, if you forego the filet mignon on YOUR big day. After all, in most cases, you probably won't find the time to enjoy it yourself!

A perfectly viable option is to just have a simple cake and punch eh-hem, 'decadent dessert' reception that will allow you to focus on a beautiful display of tasty treats sure to appease any guests.

Two side notes, though: this option is most viable between mealtimes and best indicated on your invitation as simply a "dessert reception following ceremony"

Your treats could include an extensive assortment of rich desserts such as cheese cakes, tarts, tortes, cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, cobblers, biscotti, ice cream, cotton candy, sundaes, and candies could be delectably displayed and ready for guests to partake. The key is to be consistent in containers and color scheme and your guests will think they've entered their favorite candy shop!

Another healthier and still viable option is to have a simple veggie bar. We've showcased Esther Kim's work....but it is simply too beautifully creative not to share again! She took a few notes from THE Amy Atlas and voila!

The difference is in the details...if you're only able to think creatively!

Ultimately, if you still feel as though you're shorting your guests, you could always have a more intimate gathering at a local restaurant and foot the bill for a much smaller and close-knit group of friends....

Most importantly, you'll be happier after you say I DO, because you'll have a few pennies left after all of the fun...and you can take THAT to the bank!

We love to offer great tips on how to show YOU how to do things yourself! Over the next few weeks, we understand that several of you who are planning weddings may try to catch up on some DIY projects in your time off from work...and the rest of you may start dilly-dallying with ideas for your very own house parties.
Well, we thought we'd offer some of our favorite DIY tips and pics to inspire you for your holiday entertaining. Remember, the point here is not to overwhelm you but to give you a little eye candy so that even if you AREN'T getting married right now, or planning the NYE party of the year, you can take from these and embellish to make your event that much greater whenever you do decide to have one!

1. Our favorite DIY Do-able, DESSERT BARS!

This Darling PINK Nutcracker Suite Ballet Party has SO many nuggets to tickle any girls' fancy!
Complimenting colors,an inspiration photo, and a great use of texture made this backdrop a HIT!

and this Glam SnowGirls Holiday Dessert Party reminded us that 'girls just wanna have fun'!
Really simple touches with coconut, snowflakes (hole-punch! hint, hint), and edible confetti, make this get-up as fun for the hostess as the recipients.

2. A close 2nd DIY Do-able, PERSONALIZED NAPKINS!

Anything personalized always resonates with us. This tip from Twig and Thistle, reminded us how easy it is to offer a little pizazz with the tiniest detail.

Materials Needed:
The PicnicNapkin_DIY_Template!
Paper Napkins
1.5″ Circle Punch
Iron-on Transfers
Iron
Ink Jet Printer

Instructions:
1. Download table number’s PDF and print onto Iron-on transfer paper as directed. Depending on what transfer paper you use you made need to revers the template before you print so take special note. Trim each circle out using a 1.5″ circle punch taking extra care to line up the edges. If you don’t have a 1.5″ circle punch than a craft knife can be used instead.
2. Determine where you’d like the design to appear on your napkin and place carefully on your napkin. Follow the instructions that come with the transfer paper to adhere the art work.
3. Ta-da! Unique and custom napkins without the cost!

3. Yet another DIY Do-able, RADICAL ROSETTES & RUFFLES, oh my!

Rachel, over at Heart of Light, came up with a simply splended way to add flair to go from simple to simply sophisticated This ruffle accent can be used to adorn a cardigan, make a headband, wrist corsage. YOU NAME IT!
Supplies:
Quality ribbon - as wide as you’d like your belt to be. We used 1.5 inch grosgrain for our project, but you could certainly use a pretty double satin or something else entirely. Just make sure it will lay nicely on your waist.
Fabric - We used four different types/tones for this project. Rachel chose a few different silks and a tulle. Different textures and weights make for nice variation when they’re all mixed together. The remnants bin of your local fabric store is a great place to start if you’re looking for inspiration.

How to:
1. Find the center point of your belt/ribbon and start there. We’d recommend cutting your belt longer than you think so you can accommodate for an off center finished product and/or for a big bow in the back.
2. For the complete tutorial, we’re going to point you towards Rachel’s detailed explanation of a similar headband on her blog. But the gist is this…

4. Lastly, our final DIY Do-able for the week, to catch all of the frolic on film, a DIY photo booth!

My Bride Story is filled to the brim with great DIY ideas, not to mention this DIY photo booth and how to pull it off on a budget.
With a little preplanning and forethought, this accent might just end up being the highlight of your evening! It's great at keeping everyone entertained in the 'in-betweenst' times.
Must-have items: You can wish to invest in a photo printer OR you can buy poloroid films (hurry! they're gonna stop making poloroid film soon) to recreate the photo booth experience. Printers be purchased on the low-low on ebay, craigslist, or staples for under $150 dollars and the photo paper & the ink cartridege for about $30 dollars.
Now, all that's left is:
1) a fabric backdrop (you can purchase it at IKEA or Joann's and attach to PVC pipes or you can try hanging it somehow :) ***Make sure to iron the fabric or else it will be very distracting in the background if you don't. Use a simple print or solid color print.
2)props! - think feather boa, crazy hats, maybe some stick-on mustaches, wigs
3) a faithful shift of friends to be in charge of the camera and a digital photo printer. Please provide a tripod!!
Renting a booth, can be pretty pricey, depending on which ones you rent and your location. So, if it isn't in the budget, this could definitely serve as a nice plan B!

There's just something about mothers...you know, those women who support you whole-heartedly, pushing you into prosperity, always reassuring you that everything will be fine, and that they'll always be there, regardless.....

My mom is the best and today on her glorious birthday, at Heaven Sown, we're grateful. Not only did she encourage me to obtain an engineering degree for my Plan A eh-hem, several years ago, but she also bought me my first sewing machine once I decided on my Plan B. She's always been there to nudge me along. Learning how to talk to God, drive a stick, graduations, pledging, buying my first car, buying my first home, marrying the love of my life, teaching me everything I know about flowers, and now tending to my little angels, "Chunk", "PT" and "Duke". Today I'm incredibly thankful for the one and only Deborah Ann. There's just none like her and will never be!

Nana, in between, fourth grade multiplication homework, potty training, 9 to 5s, and the after-5's we managed to drop something in the mail for you, but in the interim, the boys wanted to do a little something for you since we don't get to see you as often as we'd like. Let me tell you, it took several "takes". We can laugh over those out-takes and a good helping of sweet potato pudding later. :)

Thankful Thursdays: Provision

There's nothing like desiring something to be...and then seeing it come to fruition, right?

Here, we like to call that, provision.
Webster would say:
arrangement or preparation beforehand, as for the doing of something, the meeting of needs, the supplying of means, etc.
In the area of event planning, we've seen so many inspiration boards...too many to count. The exciting part, though, is the reality once the provision has been made!
We really do believe our "gig" is our outlet to see God's work through us while we attempt to bless the lives of others.
He said that He would open doors that no one could shut (Rev 3).
We'd just like to be a little candid here with our faith. So, today, we're thankful for the opportunity to witness His works at the hands of others. We know that as He's made provision so that our fellow dreamers can produce great designs that we often drool over. :) He will do, correction, IS DOING the same for us!

November 3rd means oh my! Christmas, er - I mean Thanksgiving is just around the corner!? If you're like us, as you were probably trying to round up candy for trick-or-tr eaters, you've strolled through the malls and discovered that holiday decor is quickly making its presence on the scene. I can almost guarantee you that as I type in the wee hours of the morning, SOMEone's graveyard shift is consisting of recycling old pumpkins and hanging stockings with care. Believe it or not, 2010 is almost no-longer-in and Auld Lang Syne will be serenading us into the year of 2011. BUT, before we drift off into white Christmases and Egg Nog, a few gatherings must occur! The question of the hour is, will YOU be ready? A little goes a loooooooong way!

So, maybe you DON'T want to visit www.youtube.com to learn how to fold a ga-zillion origami paper cranes...stay with us....we're trying to make a point here...still unique, you HAVE to admit! So we often get calls like:

"ok, so I have an event 2 weeks away....and although you can't be here in person, can you offer any tips on how to add a little umph to my party?"

or statements like:

"I don't want to spend a ton of money, only to be left with a heap of stuff that I can't use again...do I have any options?"

or even,

"I know I should've called you months ago, but....I am in dire need of saving my son's birthday sleepover that is NEXT, yes, NEXT weekend!?"

Of course, we get it. Life happens and inevitably, you're caught off guard by shinanigans and find yourself overwhelmed with wanting things to go off without a hitch...but several hitches have snagged your plan all along the way....well, that's for those of you who HAD a plan. :)
To assist you, we thought we'd offer some of our favorite DIY, or at-the-drop-of-a-hat ideas that may help you, theme or not, birthday or friendly social ta-da so that you can host like the best of 'em! Feel free to offer your trusty tidbits! We can all learn from one another.
First our checklist of PARTE' ESSENTIALS that are always a saving grace:

For evening events: coordinating candles...Wal-Mart has votives for a steal! You can hardly ever have too many.
For day parties: a pop of color either in utensils, pillows, or ceiling adornments.
For our little angels: some type of play center equipped with handy treats

For all of the above, be creative! Random dishes and containers can be used to make nice presentations, water goblets filled with greens from your oh-so-fresh fridge pocket and a single rose OR

On the day of your elaborate fete, the following tidbits might be handy to keep in mind:
1. Mindful Menu:
There's nothing wrong with mixing and matching homemade with store bought. Shh! The right presentation will mean that no one will know! For example koolaid lemonade mix and just a few sliced lemons, say it with me, will go a loooooooong way! Your guests will think you slaved on beverages alone. That's ok, that's a ok, we like for them to think that!
A theme-inspired simply printed menu for your spread can only be a plus as well:
2. Coordinating color scheme:
It really doesn't take a lot to deliver your vision. Just be consistent...and you'll find that your life is much easier if you work with a color scheme that already exists in your venue! Why reinvent the wheel?
50th birthday bash? gold accents and tons of old pics...a $2.87 can of gold spray paint CAN be your best friend!
70's groove? :old records borrowed or purchased from Goodwill either piled on a table or hung from a chandelier could work
Western BBQ? burlap fabric, bandanas and bails of hay will create just the right setting...and of course, finger-lickin' good BBQ :)

3. Magnificent Melodies:
Think of something that will create the ideal ambiance.
Technology has advanced our searches, so we no longer have to ride around town looking for "the right" mix CD....and we don't have to listen to the radio until the oldie-but-goodie is played so that we can record on our tape cassette....only to have our recording interrupted by call-in shout-outs. Aah, memories....

You don't always have to have a DJ! Between iPods and sites like www.pandora.com and www.slackerradio.com you can hit the jackpot by creating your own playlists. Pandora and Slacker Radio will even find songs based on songs you've already selected. If you don't want to hear live ads during your event, at least those sites will help you expand your knowledge of songs that are similar to ones you've already selected, and for the cost of a small fry at Mickey D's, you can download in seconds from Amazon to your heart's content!

4. Lastly, an eye-catching backdrop:
We love a few Amy Atlas designs...for two reasons:

1. She's a licensed atty who quit her day job
2. She discovered her creative side later in life

Here are a few examples of her work...just enough to make you meander over to her own site.
She takes little things, magnifies them, and wows you. Easily duplicatable with a little practice and patience. Go ahead, you can do it. :)

Thankful Thursdays: The Legacy

This week's Thankful Thursdays post isn't gonna be about marriages, weddings, or the details that make them beautiful...we may revisit those tidbits next week. Instead, it will be about life and what a blessing it is to have. Over the weekend, we lost the matriarch of my family on my mother's side, my dear Grandma Sallie....but our loss is Heaven's gain! As I worked on a few bibs tonight I started to think of all of the wonderful things that were said about my grandmother this week...how she was a

crafty seemstress
dedicated wife and homemaker
skilled gardener
handy chef
virtuous woman
devout Christian
encourager/inspirer

While married, she had 7 children, including five daughters. It just occurred to me after 30+ years of life, that her living descendants include 5 granddaughters. Go figure? :) I started thinking about the legacy she has left for us to run with. It's amazing how things have come together. We're all now between 25 and 35 and doing our own thing.

April - bachelor's {check!}, master's {check!}, she's going to show us all how to get a PhD and still be glamourous at the same time. :)

Crys - teaching, encouraging our 21st century youth in this corrupt world

Colette - preaching the gospel, sharing The Good Word with everyone who might hear of His grace and mercies

"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"" Isaiah 57:2

T. Sherri- full time wife, mom, and worker outside of the home...what a balancing act!

and lastly myself - by day, engineer...by night, entrepreneur who likes to sew and sow seeds of encouragement in every experience with each client we touch.

Call me extra, call me extra deep, but I'd like to think that Mrs. Sallie Cox left us a bit of a legacy...I mean what virtuous woman such as herself wouldn't?! I'd also like the think of the word legacy being best captured through the following definition: I took the liberty of looking up her name meaning...only because I'm a firm believer in your name ...(or atleast what you call yourself in utterance) having some weight in your destiny.
Sallie - "princess" and once she married, Cox has an interesting meaning itself!
Funny, things we never knew about our name...and being of African-American heritage, I'm certain that our last name was 'given'...but only given by a man who's life embodied its own meaning:

Cox Family Crest: "The Origins of the Anglo-Saxon name Cox come from its first bearer, who was a person who bore a fancied resemblance to a rooster. It was applied both to early risers and those who strutted proudly."

..and anyone who knew my grandmother...AND her daughters, knows that they have always been early risers, proud of themselves, and who they could become! Really...interesting how that happens!

Ultimately, I believe we all have a legacy...but most importantly, today, I've been so thankful for the legacy she has left for us! So if I believe that a legacy is truly the Lord's way of Equipping us wiht Grace to Accomplish the Call Yet fullfilled in our lives, the next question is

Has His grace been wasted?
What calling's have I fulfilled?
I pose that to our blog readers as well, what legacy are you living and leaving for those who will come after you?

We LOVE opportunities to celebrate that agape love between couples. ;) So much so that we're almost ready to roll out something new! One of the best things about love is the memory of fantastic experiences....Experiences that kind of take you by awe...ya know? The ones that catch you off guard just a little and remind you of how cherished you are by the one YOU love. What a perfect saying to create a setting inspired by vintage wines, twinkling stars, and intoxicating love! So when our next bride-to-be just happened to run that one by us, we embraced her starry night theme whole-heartedly! I mean, really, you'd have to be crazy, if you couldn't embrace THAT. Picture this: a steamy late-summer evening soiree nestled in the hills of the Autumn Creek Vineyards in Mayodan, North Carolina, adorned with glittering gold stars, blush pinks, champagnes & taupes, all intertwined, embodying the romantic vineyard backdrop...and an eternal love, for certain. Ya know here, we believe the beauty is most often captured in the magnified details, so we're taking the liberty of sharing a few of the great images THE Ms. Michelle Dalton, with team in tow, was able to create! Aah, the beauty of a great couple, many years, and a touching love story....

This beautiful couple has been married for 50 glorious years....now 6 children, a multitude of grandchildren, great-grand children, and years of happiness later, you must feast your eyes on this!

Ya know, there are tons of our current colleagues out there who work day jobs, head home in a fury, wish about what they would love to do, dream about the crazy work schedule on the next day, wake up to a hectic morning, rush off to do their day jobs, head home in a fury, and wish and dream some more...only to see 5 and 10 years later that they're doing the same things they've always done and getting the same results. I don't know what it is about us as humans, that makes us sooo dependent on what is, that we won't step out to see what can be.
Is it: a. a lack of faith b. a fear of failure c. no stick-tuitiveness (nope, not in Webster's) to make things happen Maybe it's a little of all three. So, today we're going to share a few stories of folks who are using their "God-given" ideas, and making them work for them. They inspire us to keep chugging so that our gifts will make room for us!!

This single-parent mother of twins really has figured out how to make her gifts work for her. Featured in Black Enterprise in 2008, this now 28-year-old has managed to turn her once in-home stationed business into a multi-million dollar debt free operation, Elohim Cleaning Contractors. In 2002 (not even 10 years ago!!!) Sirena Moore, her father, and younger brother pooled their resources to start a construction site cleanup company. Not glamorous you say?...not glamorous = $2 million in revenue in 2008! She was recently named the 2010 Small Business Person of the Year by the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Now last, but certainly not least, you have two daring siblings willing to quit their jobs to push a product line that endorsed a then Illinois senator/presidential candidate, who by most accounts, was not the "shoe-in" to win the 2008 United States presidential election. Regardless of your political preference, these two, Lorielle and Brandon Broussard, are to be commended for their daring approach to following their dream.
Their Barack The Vote slogan led them from potentially penniless to generating over $600,000 in revenue in 2008. Since the election, they've continued on to their new line, Yotown,showcasing non-political views but personalized maps of area cities....again, working together, making their gifts work for them.

What better way to celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss than to have a fabulous vow renewal?! We can't say thanks enough to Helen and Nathaniel for the opportunity to share in their big day! Not many make 50 and we were elated to be a part!! From the peacock blue lounge to dessert spread with the thoughtful gifting tree, the guests were able to share sweet sentiments with the honored couple while relaxing amongst hues of silver, blue, and gold.... feast your eyes on some of the amateur photo details....more to come soon!

Is it just us or are babies 'in the water' yet again? It just seems like babies are in abundance yet again. We get so many questions about baby showers and such, so we thought we'd compile some of favorite features from one of our favorite blogs, Hostess with the Mostess Sooo many ideas that could work for the pickiest or lax mom-to-be. :) We love this recent HWTM Blog post, "Peek-a-Pooh", because of the pooh theme taken into every detail!From the adorable diaper cake to the thought-provoking menu, no detail was forgotten. Thankful Thursdays: The Uniquities in Everyday Volume III

So, today we're thankful for such unique people around us. Sometimes you'll think you've known someone for so long, and then you find out something you never even knew. Frankly, there isn't much better than old friends and new conversations, allowing you to put a new spin on things. A fresh look at a seemingly old picture creates a new perspective...so as you meander through your day...and possibly get frustrated with your current existence, try to take a moment to look at it from another perspective. We love working with clients who welcome a new approach to things and actually, it is rather fun using that freedom to change a perspective to see things at an entirely different angle. Call us weird, but it's actually pretty invigorating! Everyday life can jumble all things up and get our hearts all in a tizzy...but every once in a while a visit from an old friend can help you recognize how a unique me can use my uniquities to still overcome the little things to make the big things like love, companionship, and family all the more grand. Simply removing the dot from the word ‘claire’ reveals the word ‘dave’ proving that they really were meant to be together. The word ‘dave’ was printed in metallic blue on uncoated white stock and covered by a translucent stock which carried the dot of the ‘i’ and the wedding details on the reverse. The two sheets were then stitched together with white cotton. Published in the D&AD Annual 2007, won Gold in the New York Festivals and Type Director's Club and nominated for The Clio Awards. So we've been considering adding a weekly post to our blog, Thankful Thursdays. We figured Thursdays were just about "when you think you've had it!" in the hustle-bustle of the week and are ready to throwing everything to the wind, right? Well, at first glance, so-called-Miracle Monday, didn't seem all that miraculous...so, in an effort to bring our own spirits up, looks like this week's Thankful Thursday has just turned into a Thankful Tuesday for those of you who will meander over to our site tomorrow. So, we'll think on some positive things to help lift your spirits this evening and for the remainder of the week...because when its all said and done, the little vicissitudes of life that are surrounding us today, probably won't be worth a hill of beans next year, next month, or even next week. It's the thoughful, captured moments that will make the difference. Make your V-day flowers look great through next week!

When caring for fresh cut flowers, diligence is key. Flowers require care and attention to ensure that they last long past the day they are brought home from the store or cut from an outdoor arrangement. Balanced, clean water and open stems are the most important factors to making fresh cut flowers last.
Lukewarm water is best for fresh cut flowers since water molecules move faster when they are warm. The speed of the molecules allows it to be absorbed faster. Bulbs prefer cold water since these plants are used to cool ground temperatures.
Since some hopefuls will have flowers coming to them in the near future, we thought we'd share a few tried and tested tips to help you help your stems maintain their punch through the upcoming week!

Here are just things to continue to get the best bang for your buck:

1: When flowers are purchased from the store, their stems should be re-cut about an inch (2.5 cm) or so above the old cut line to remove the air bubble that developed when the flowers were removed abruptly from their water supply.

2: Foliage below the water line needs to be removed because it contributes to bacteria buildup.

3: When placing the arrangement in the home, avoid direct sunlight and areas subject to constant breezes like those in front of a heater vent or air conditioner.

4: The water should be changed every two or three days and stems re-cut to avoid the buildup of bacteria.

5: To further contribute to the life of freshly cut flowers, a balancing agent can be added to the water. The small packets usually provided by florists contain three things. First is a biocide, or chemicals that kill bacteria. Bacteria is a common killer of fresh cut flowers, second only to the absence of water. Also included is an acidifier to create acid and increase water uptake, and sugar to feed the plant.

Another that most people can make with products in their home is a solution of lemon juice, sugar, and bleach. To one quart of water (.95 liter), add 2 tablespoons (29.6 ml) of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon (14.8 ml) of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of bleach. With a solution like this and regular maintenance, fresh cut flowers can have long and healthy lives in the home.

6: If the flower food solution becomes cloudy, replace it entirely with properly mixed flower food solution. If possible, re-cut stems by removing one to two inches with a sharp knife. Be sure to use a sharp knife or clippers that will not crush the stems. Immediately place the stems into solution.

7: Keep flowers in a cool spot (65 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit). Most flowers will last longer under cool conditions.

Granted, anyone should LOVE to receive any kind of flower, but it takes a special connoisseur to deliver a gift with meaning. Personally, we love different fresh cuts like Peonies, Bells of Ireland, and Snapdragons, but in the case that some of our followers wanted the scoop on common flower meanings, we thought we'd oblige...
